The Victron Smart IP43 Charger series charges 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V battery banks from mains or shore power, and keeps them in good condition when they stay connected for long periods. Its adaptive charge algorithm sets absorption time according to how deeply the battery has been discharged, so a lightly cycled bank is not overcharged and a deeply discharged one is brought back to full charge. When the battery is not in use, Storage Mode lowers the charge voltage to reduce gassing and plate corrosion, with a weekly refresh to prevent stratification and sulphation.

Ten models cover house battery charge currents from 13A to 50A. Choose a (1) model to charge a single battery bank, a (1+1) model to charge a house battery while a second output of approximately 4A tops up a starter battery, or a (3) model to charge three separate banks from outputs that can each deliver the full rated current, within the charger's total rating. The 12V and 24V models come in (1+1) and (3) versions; the 36V and 48V models are (1) versions.

Set-up, monitoring and updates are handled over Bluetooth with the VictronConnect app. For system integration, the VE.Direct interface provides a wired connection to a GX device such as the Cerbo GX and enables Instant Readout remotely from VRM, while VE.Smart Networking lets a Smart Battery Sense, SmartShunt or BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor feed actual battery voltage and temperature back to the charger. Two or more chargers on the same VE.Smart Network charge in sync. For LiFePO4 banks, a lithium BMS can switch the charger on and off through the remote on/off terminals.

Typical applications include house and starter battery charging on vessels connected to shore power, recreational and service vehicles, and off-grid and backup power systems alongside Victron inverters and MPPT solar chargers. Because output voltage can be set over Bluetooth or VE.Direct, the charger can also be used as a DC power supply. The mains cord is ordered separately, with an AS/NZS 3112 plug option for Australian and New Zealand installations.

Features
  • Bluetooth Smart Built-In: The wireless solution to set up, monitor, control, update and synchronise Smart IP43 Chargers.
  • Adaptive 6-Stage Charge Algorithm: Bulk, absorption, recondition, float, storage and refresh, with the charge process automatically optimised to how the battery is used (3-stage for Li-ion).
  • Fully Programmable Charge Algorithm: Three preprogrammed algorithms (Normal, High and Lithium) are selectable with the mode button, and the full algorithm can be programmed via Bluetooth or VE.Direct.
  • LiFePO4 Charging: A 3-stage Li-ion algorithm, with charger on/off control from a Li-ion BMS through the remote on/off port, or full voltage and current control over Bluetooth.
  • Variable Absorption Time: Kept short after shallow discharges to prevent overcharging, and automatically increased after a deep discharge so the battery is fully charged.
  • BatterySafe Mode: Limits the rate of voltage increase once the gassing voltage is reached, preventing damage from excessive gassing when fast charging.
  • Storage Mode: After 24 hours without discharge, float voltage drops to 2.2V/cell (13.2V for a 12V battery in Normal and High modes), with a weekly rise to absorption level to prevent stratification and sulphation.
  • Automatic Voltage Compensation: Output voltage increases slightly as DC current rises, compensating for voltage drop over the DC cabling.
  • Optional Bluetooth Voltage and Temperature Sensing: A Smart Battery Sense, SmartShunt or BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor can send battery voltage and temperature to one or more chargers via VE.Smart Networking.
  • VE.Direct Interface: A wired data connection to a GX device such as the Cerbo GX, or to a PC or other devices, which also enables Instant Readout remotely from VRM.
  • Remote On/Off: Two terminals, Remote H and Remote L, for a remote on/off switch or relay contact; alternatively, terminal H can be pulled high or terminal L pulled low.
  • Programmable Relay: An SPDT relay that can be programmed via the VE.Direct interface or a Bluetooth-enabled device to trip on an alarm or other events.
  • Synchronised Charging: Two or more Smart IP43 Chargers paired in a VE.Smart Network charge in sync, improving charge efficiency and battery life.
  • Can Be Used as a Power Supply: Output voltage can be set with Bluetooth and/or VE.Direct.
  • Adjustable Input Current: The maximum input current can be set between 3A and 10A to suit the capacity of the AC supply.
  • Low Current Mode: Reduces house battery charge current to 15A (12/30), 25A (12/50), 8A (24/16), 12.5A (24/25), 7.5A (36/15) or 6.5A (48/13).
  • Protection: Battery reverse polarity (fuse, not user accessible), output short circuit and over temperature.

FAQs
(1) models have a single output for one battery bank. (1+1) models add a second output, limited to approximately 4A at a slightly lower output voltage, for topping up a starter battery. (3) models have three outputs that can each supply the full rated current, but the combined total can never exceed the charger's current rating. The 12/30, 12/50, 24/16 and 24/25 are available as (1+1) and (3) models; the 36/15 and 48/13 are (1) models.
House battery charge current is 30A (12/30), 50A (12/50), 16A (24/16), 25A (24/25), 15A (36/15) and 13A (48/13). Low current mode reduces these to 15A, 25A, 8A, 12.5A, 7.5A and 6.5A respectively. On (1+1) models, the starter battery output supplies 4A max.
It accepts 85–250Vac at 45–65Hz, with full power from 100Vac and startup from 90Vac, plus a DC input range of 90–375Vdc. Power factor is >0.99, and the maximum input current can be set between 3A and 10A.
Three preprogrammed algorithms are selectable with the mode button. On 12V models: Normal mode is 14.4V absorption, 13.8V float, 13.2V storage; High mode is 14.7V absorption, 13.8V float, 13.2V storage; Lithium mode is 14.2V absorption and 13.5V storage. 24V, 36V and 48V models use 2, 3 and 4 times these values. The algorithm is also fully programmable via Bluetooth and/or VE.Direct.
Yes. It charges LiFePO4 batteries with a 3-stage algorithm. On/off control can be set up by connecting a relay or open collector optocoupler output from a Li-ion BMS to the remote on/off port, or full control of voltage and current can be achieved with Bluetooth.
The charger is IP43 rated and natural convection cooled, in a blue aluminium (RAL 5012) enclosure measuring 180 x 249 x 116mm and weighing 2.7kg. It operates from -20°C to +60°C at up to 95% humidity (non-condensing), delivering rated output current up to 40°C and derating linearly to 20% at 60°C.
No. The charger has an IEC 320 C14 inlet and includes a retainer clip, but the AC cord must be ordered separately. An Australia/New Zealand AS/NZS 3112 plug option is available.
