Sizing Calculator
Enter your equipment load and site details below for a rough estimate. This is a simplified guide only — for an exact specification, our engineers confirm the real winter solar data for your site and size against your full load profile.
How many days with no sun at all the battery alone must keep the system running
Winter (June–July) peak sun hour midpoints, based on NIWA SolarView regional data as summarised by GridFree. Actual PSH varies with panel tilt and exact site — treat as a starting point, not a substitute for our engineers confirming your specific location.

Ballpark figures only, assuming lithium batteries at 80% usable depth of discharge and a 75% solar system derate. Regional winter sun hours are approximate midpoints from published NIWA-derived data and can vary meaningfully with panel tilt, orientation and exact site conditions. Actual sizing depends on your exact devices, site shading and confirmed winter solar data from our engineers.
One Supplier for the Whole Off-Grid Power System
More and more equipment across New Zealand's Agri-tech, data telemetry and IoT markets needs to be powered remotely, off-grid.
Many of these businesses build very capable tech and software, but assembling the solar and electrical side of the product often means juggling multiple suppliers, tying up internal resources, and struggling to scale production quickly.
Tell us the DC voltages your equipment needs, the load current, hours of operation, and how many days of autonomy (no sun) you want the system to run for, and we'll deliver a fully finished, integrated solution built to those parameters.
Every Box Is Built to the Same Complete Standard
IP65 or IP67 rated outdoor enclosure, or lockable cabinet
Deep cycle AGM or LiFePO4 battery bank, sized to your load
Solar panel(s) with pole-mounted frame
Solar cable (3m, 5m or 8m) with mating connectors, pre-terminated
Solar charge controller, sized to the panel and battery
Any DC-DC converters needed for devices that won't run direct off the battery voltage
Sized to Your Load, Your Climate, and Your Autonomy Needs
We size every system against four inputs: the DC voltages your equipment needs, the current it draws, how many hours a day it runs (usually 24/7), and how many days of autonomy — no sun at all — you want the system to survive. Battery bank, panel size and charge controller are all selected against those numbers, not a generic template.
Room for Your Equipment, or We Pre-Wire It for You
We can leave space in the enclosure for you to fit your own equipment on site, or we can receive your devices and install and pre-wire them into the box ourselves before it ships — reducing the in-house labour and time needed to put the finished unit together.
Built to Scale with Your Production
A single supplier relationship means we can scale production up as your volumes grow, and hold a small buffer stock of finished boxes on repeat-configuration builds to protect your continuity of supply and let you respond quickly to demand.
Common Applications
Solar Box solutions are used wherever equipment needs to run off-grid. The strongest current demand in New Zealand is in Agri-tech and cow monitoring, alongside growing use in water quality sensing — plus gate automation and CCTV, though these markets increasingly see mass-produced solar kits that can struggle to perform through a New Zealand winter.
Help Us Understand Your Specific Requirements
Complete as many fields as you can — partial answers are fine, and our team will follow up on anything critical that's missing. Site solar data is looked up by us based on the location you provide, so you don't need to source that yourself.
Thanks — that's with our engineering team
We'll review what you've sent through and come back with a proposed configuration and quotation. If anything critical is missing, we'll follow up directly.
What Goes Into a Solar Box Solution?
Most of what goes into a Solar Box is sourced and built to match your load and site — not a fixed catalogue item. DC/DC converters are the one component we typically hold as stock; everything else below is selected or sourced per project.

Solar Panels
Sourced to match the wattage your system needs, with a pole-mounted frame. We don't stock a fixed panel range — panel size and quantity are calculated from your load, hours of operation and site's winter sun hours.
Solar Charge Controllers
Selected to suit the panel wattage and battery chemistry, regulating charge to protect the battery bank and maximise the useful life of the system across the site's autonomy requirement.
Battery Banks
Deep cycle AGM or LiFePO4 batteries, sized against your load current, hours of operation and required days of autonomy without sun.
DC/DC Converters
Steps the battery bank voltage down (or up) to power any device in the box that won't run directly off the battery voltage. Our one typically-stocked component in this line-up.
Solar Cable & Connectors
Pre-terminated solar cable in 3m, 5m or 8m lengths with mating connectors, run between the panel and the enclosure.
Enclosures
IP65 or IP67 rated outdoor enclosures and lockable cabinets, sourced or built to your specification, with space for your equipment or pre-wired before shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions specific to Solar Box solutions. For general value-added questions, see the Value-Added Solutions overview.
The DC voltage(s) your equipment needs, the current it draws, how many hours a day it operates (typically 24/7), and how many days of autonomy without sun you want the system to withstand.
7–10 days if it's based on a design we've built before, or 2–3 weeks for a new design.
Yes. We can leave mounting space for you to fit your equipment on site, or receive your devices and install and pre-wire them into the enclosure on your behalf before it ships.
On repeat-configuration builds we can hold a buffer stock of finished units and scale production as your volumes grow, so a single supplier relationship covers your continuity of supply.
