The Victron Skylla-IP65 is a battery charger built for installations exposed to heat, humidity and salt air. Its epoxy powder-coated IP65 steel case withstands these conditions, and an acrylic coating protects the circuit boards against corrosion. Temperature sensors keep power components within specified limits, automatically reducing output current under extreme environmental conditions.

Each Victron Skylla-IP65 model can serve more than one battery bank. The (1+1) models charge a main bank and top up a starter battery from a second isolated output of approximately 3A. The (3) models charge three banks from isolated outputs that can each supply the full rated current, within a combined maximum of 70A on the 12V model or 35A on the 24V model. The 12/70 versions suit 12V banks of 350Ah to 700Ah, and the 24/35 versions suit 24V banks of 150Ah to 350Ah.

For lead-acid batteries, the 7-stage adaptive algorithm keeps absorption time short after shallow discharges and extends it after a deep discharge. BatterySafe mode limits the rate of voltage rise once the gassing voltage is reached. Storage mode reduces the float voltage to 2.2V per cell when the battery has not been discharged for 24 hours, minimising gassing and corrosion of the positive plates, and raises it to absorption level once a week to refresh the battery. The supplied temperature sensor and the voltage sense facility correct the charge voltage for battery temperature and cable losses.

For lithium systems, a Li-Ion battery management system (BMS) can switch the charger on and off through its remote on-off port. Alternatively, connecting to the CAN-bus port gives complete control of voltage and current.

Typical applications include marine installations running from shore power or generators, salt-air and high-humidity environments, multi-bank battery systems, and DC loads that need a stabilised supply where batteries or large buffer capacitors are not available.

Use the LCD display to monitor status and adapt the charge algorithm to a particular battery and its conditions of use. The VE.Can (NMEA2000) interface connects the Victron Skylla-IP65 to a CAN-bus network or a Color Control display. A Skylla-i Control panel on the same interface adds remote control, monitoring and input current limiting for limited shore power or small gensets. The interface also synchronises multiple chargers in parallel over RJ45 UTP cables.

Features
  • IP65 Protection: Epoxy powder-coated steel case withstands heat, humidity and salt air, and acrylic-coated circuit boards add corrosion resistance.
  • Two or Three Isolated Outputs: (1+1) models add a second output of approximately 3A at a slightly lower voltage to top up a starter battery; (3) models have three outputs that can each supply the full rated current.
  • 7-Stage Adaptive Charging: For lead-acid batteries, absorption time is kept short after shallow discharges and automatically extended after a deep discharge, so the battery is fully recharged without overcharging.
  • BatterySafe Mode: Limits the rate of voltage increase once the gassing voltage is reached, preventing damage from excessive gassing when a high charge current and absorption voltage are selected.
  • Storage Mode: After 24 hours without discharge, float voltage drops to 2.2V/cell (13.2V or 26.4V) to minimise gassing and corrosion of the positive plates, with a weekly refresh to absorption level to prevent electrolyte stratification and sulphation.
  • Temperature Compensation and Voltage Sense: The supplied battery temperature sensor lowers charge voltage as battery temperature rises (especially recommended for sealed lead-acid batteries), and voltage sense compensates for cable losses.
  • Li-Ion (LiFePO4) Ready: On-off control from a Li-Ion BMS via the remote on-off port, or full voltage and current control via the CAN-bus port.
  • LCD Display: Monitor charger status and adapt the charge algorithm to a particular battery and its conditions of use.
  • CAN-bus and Parallel Operation: The VE.Can (NMEA2000) interface connects to a CAN-bus network, Skylla-i Control panel or Color Control display, and synchronises parallel chargers over RJ45 UTP cables.
  • Can Be Used as a Power Supply: Provides a stabilised output voltage where batteries or large buffer capacitors are not available.

FAQs
The (1+1) models have a main output (70A on the 12/70, 35A on the 24/35) plus a second output limited to approximately 3A at a slightly lower voltage, intended to top up a starter battery. The (3) models have three isolated outputs that can each supply the full rated current, with a maximum total output of 70A on the 12/70 (3) and 35A on the 24/35 (3).
The 12/70 models are rated for 12V battery banks of 350–700Ah, and the 24/35 models for 24V battery banks of 150–350Ah.
The 12V models charge at 14.4V absorption, 13.8V float and 13.2V storage; the 24V models at 28.8V absorption, 27.6V float and 26.4V storage. The output voltage range is 10–16V on 12V models and 20–32V on 24V models.
Yes. The Li-Ion charge algorithm is 3-stage, with on-off control or CAN-bus control. For on-off control, connect a relay or open collector opto coupler output from a Li-Ion BMS to the charger's remote on-off port. Alternatively, connecting to the CAN-bus port gives complete control of voltage and current.
It accepts 120/230Vac nominal across a 90–265Vac range at 45–65Hz, draws a maximum of 12A at 100Vac, and has a power factor of 0.98. The AC connection uses 6mm² (AWG 10) screw-clamp terminals, and the battery connection uses M6 bolts.
The operating range is -20°C to +60°C, with full output current up to 40°C. Output reduces to 60% at 50°C and 40% at 60°C, and temperature sensors reduce output current automatically if needed. Cooling is by internal air circulation, and the charger is rated for up to 95% non-condensing humidity.
Yes. The two RJ45 VE.Can ports (NMEA2000 protocol, not isolated) let multiple chargers be connected in parallel and synchronised with RJ45 UTP cables. The same interface connects to a Color Control display or to a Skylla-i Control panel, which adds remote control, LED status indication and input current limiting for limited shore power or small gensets. Several control panels can be connected to one charger or to a set of synchronised parallel chargers.
It is protected against battery reverse polarity (fuse), output short circuit and over temperature, and has a DPST alarm relay. It complies with EN 60335-1 and EN 60335-2-29 (safety), EN 55014-1, EN 61000-6-3 and EN 61000-3-2 (emission), and EN 55014-2, EN 61000-6-1, EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-3-3 (immunity).
