Read MoreThe Victron Skylla-i is a 24V battery charger for installations where one charger needs to manage more than one battery bank. It runs a 7-stage adaptive charge algorithm for lead-acid batteries and supports Li-Ion (LiFePO4) banks through BMS on-off control or full voltage and current control over its galvanically isolated CAN bus port.
The series comes in 80A and 100A ratings, each in two output configurations. The (1+1) models charge a main bank and top up a separate starter battery from a second output limited to approximately 4A. The (3) models have three isolated outputs that can each deliver the full rated current, with total output capped at 80A or 100A. The 24/80 models suit 400–800Ah battery banks and the 24/100 models suit 500–1,000Ah.
For lead-acid banks, the Victron Skylla-i uses variable absorption time, BatterySafe mode and Storage mode to limit overcharging, gassing and sulphation. The included battery temperature sensor and voltage sense keep charge voltage accurate as temperature and cable losses change.
The charger runs from New Zealand 230Vac mains or from a DC supply, and its stabilised output means it can also serve as a power supply where batteries or large buffer capacitors aren't available.
An aluminium epoxy powder-coated case with drip shield, stainless steel fixings and acrylic-coated circuit boards withstands heat, humidity and salt air. Internal temperature sensors reduce output current automatically under extreme conditions to keep power components within their limits.
Typical applications include commercial and recreational vessels, where the NMEA2000 interface and corrosion-resistant construction suit onboard systems charged from shore power or a generator, along with vehicle, off-grid and industrial standby systems that rely on more than one battery bank.
Several Victron Skylla-i chargers can be synchronised in parallel over VE.Can with RJ45 UTP cables for higher total charge current, although (1+1) and (3) models can't be paralleled with each other. The Skylla-i Control panel adds remote monitoring and input current limiting for systems running from limited shore power or small generators, and the BMV-700 battery monitor tracks state of charge across the bank.

- Two Output Configurations: Available as the Skylla-i (1+1) with two isolated outputs for topping up a starter battery (second output limited to approximately 4A), or the Skylla-i (3) with three full-current isolated outputs for charging three separate battery banks.
- Li-Ion (LiFePO4) Ready: Simple on-off charger control via a relay or open collector optocoupler from a Li-Ion BMS, or complete voltage and current control through the galvanically isolated CAN bus port.
- Synchronised Parallel Operation: Multiple chargers can be synchronised via the CAN bus interface using RJ45 UTP cables; two-output and three-output chargers cannot be paralleled with each other.
- BatterySafe Mode: Automatically limits the rate of voltage increase once the gassing voltage is reached, preventing damage from excessive gassing during high current, high absorption voltage charging.
- Storage Mode: Reduces float voltage to 2.2V/cell (26.4V for a 24V battery) after 24 hours without discharge, refreshing to absorption level weekly to prevent stratification and sulphation.
- Variable Absorption Time: Keeps absorption short after shallow discharges to prevent overcharging, and extends it automatically after a deep discharge so the battery is fully recharged.
- Temperature Compensation & Battery Voltage Sense: A battery temperature sensor automatically reduces charge voltage as battery temperature rises, while voltage sense compensates for cable resistance.
- Rugged Construction: Aluminium epoxy powder coated case with drip shield and stainless steel fixings, acrylic-coated circuit boards, and temperature sensors that reduce output current under extreme conditions.
- Flexible Configuration: A CAN bus (NMEA2000) interface, rotary switch, DIP switches and potentiometers allow the charge algorithm to be adapted to the connected battery.
- AC or DC Supply: Accepts 185–265Vac or 180–350Vdc input, and the stabilised output allows use as a power supply where batteries or large buffer capacitors aren't available.
