The Dunkermotoren AE65 is an absolute encoder that reports true shaft position the moment the drive powers up, so the axis is referenced immediately — with no homing move or reference run at start-up.

It sits inside the motor’s own profile housing rather than mounting as a separate unit, and feeds position to the internal Dunkermotoren controller. Its opto-mechanical counter retains the turn count through power cycles, so a machine restarts exactly where it stopped.

It integrates with the BG 66 and BG 75 motors, building absolute position feedback into the drive from the outset rather than adding it as a separate component later.

It suits positioning and motion-control tasks that must come up already referenced and hold their count through shutdowns — automated machinery and handling systems where a homing cycle at every restart isn’t acceptable.

Dunkermotoren AE65 absolute encoder integrated in BG brushless DC motor housing with M12 connector.
Features
  • Absolute feedback means the drive knows true shaft position the moment it powers up — no homing move at start-up
  • 12 Bit multiturn counting tracks revolutions as well as shaft angle, so position is preserved over multi-turn travel
  • Opto-mechanical counter buffering retains the turn count through power cycles, so the machine restarts where it stopped
  • 13 Bit singleturn resolution with ±7" repeatability supports tight, repeatable positioning on precision axes
  • SSI output feeds the internal Dunkermotoren controller directly, keeping feedback wiring inside the drive
  • Built into the motor’s profile housing — IP 65 protection without adding an external enclosure or extra length

FAQs
The AE65 reports true shaft position the instant the drive powers up, so the axis is referenced immediately — no homing move or reference run at start-up, unlike an incremental encoder that only counts change from power-on.
The AE65 uses an opto-mechanical multiturn counter that retains the turn count through power cycles, so the machine restarts exactly where it stopped.
The AE65 provides 13 Bit singleturn and 12 Bit multiturn resolution, giving fine position measurement within each turn and across multiple turns.
The AE65 integrates with the Dunkermotoren BG 66 and BG 75 brushless DC motor series; per the datasheet it is not offered on the BG 45 or BG 95 frames.
The AE65 outputs over SSI directly to the internal Dunkermotoren motor controller, keeping the feedback wiring inside the motor rather than running to an external interface.
The AE65 has a repeatability of ±7 arcseconds (±7"), so it returns to the same commanded position very consistently. The datasheet specifies this as repeatability rather than absolute accuracy.
The AE65 is integrated within the motor's profile housing, protecting it without a separate enclosure or added external length.
The AE65 is the integrated absolute-feedback option on the BG 66 and BG 75 motor frames. For selection help or to confirm the right configuration for your Australian or New Zealand installation, contact Powerbox at sales@powerbox.com.au.
