Powerbox Motion and Drive: Introducing a Complete Motor, Drive and Actuation Portfolio for Australian and New Zealand Customers

Powerbox has supported New Zealand and Australian industry for more than forty years with specialist power conversion and energy storage solutions. From 2025, that capability has been extended with the formal integration of the motors and drives division of M. Rutty & Co into the Powerbox business. This brings a comprehensive Motion and Drive portfolio under the same roof as our power electronics expertise, creating a single technical partner for both sides of the electrical system.

The transition expands our engineering capability, strengthens local support and aligns our offering with the needs of automation, rail, packaging, medical, robotics and industrial OEM customers throughout the region.


The Dunkermotoren Platform

At the centre of the motion portfolio is the Dunkermotoren range of Brushless and Brushed DC motors. Dunkermotoren is recognised globally for compact integrated drives that combine the motor, control electronics, encoder and optional gearbox into a single industrial-grade platform.

Powerbox now supports the full Dunkermotoren product family, including their comprehensive range of Brushless DC Motors:

dCore

A base DC motor platform for applications or OEMs who want a BLDC motor without integrated electronics. Suitable for customers who plan to design or specify their own external motor controller.

dGo

A cost-effective integrated motor with basic positioning, speed control and essential industrial protocols. Ideal for simple automation and mobile platforms.

Dunkermotoren BG42 Series Brushless DC Motor

dMove

A mid-range integrated motor with advanced positioning features and higher-level performance. Suitable for packaging lines, conveyors, AGVs and light industrial machinery.

dPro

The top-tier variant with advanced motion functionality, fully integrated fieldbus support (CANopen, EtherCAT, Profinet) and sophisticated closed-loop control. This is used where precision, programmability and deterministic control are required.

Across these platforms, engineers can specify matching accessories including:

  • Planetary and right-angle gearboxes
  • Incremental and absolute encoders
  • Brake modules
  • External motion controllers
  • Application-specific cable assemblies

This modular approach allows Powerbox to supply a complete, matched drivetrain that is configured specifically for the mechanical, electrical and control requirements of each project.

Mavilor Servo Motors

For applications requiring higher dynamic performance, Powerbox supplies Mavilor servo motors. These units are used in robotics, industrial automation, textile machinery, semiconductor equipment and demanding OEM systems. With high torque density, precise feedback and multiple winding options, they provide a reliable platform for advanced motion control.

Moving Beyond Pneumatics

A key trend across both rail and industrial automation is the shift from pneumatic actuators to electric linear systems. Powerbox supports this transition through the Dunkermotoren linear drive ecosystem, which offers:

  • Improved overall system efficiency
  • Accurate and repeatable motion control
  • Reduced maintenance compared with compressed air systems
  • Lower total lifecycle cost

This change is now occurring in packaging lines, warehouse automation, rolling stock, environmental mechanisms and mobile platforms. Powerbox supports customers through actuator selection, control tuning and mechanical integration.

Electromagnetic Solutions from Kendrion

The Motion and Drive portfolio also includes solenoids, holding magnets and electromagnetic actuators from Kendrion. These devices are used in safety systems, transport equipment, vending systems, medical devices and a wide range of industrial actuation tasks. Combining these solutions with Dunkermotoren or Mavilor motion allows Powerbox to cover both continuous and intermittent actuation requirements.

As a supplier of both power electronics and motion systems, Powerbox can support the full electrical path from supply input to mechanical output. Our team provides:
