The Dunkermotoren RE20 is a magnetic incremental encoder designed to mount directly to Dunkermotoren GR and BG brushless DC motors, adding quadrature position feedback to higher-power motor platforms for closed-loop speed and direction control. It operates contact-free with no wear parts, delivering 100 pulses per channel (400 counts per revolution) via a two-channel A/B interface from a 5 Vdc supply. 24 Vdc versions are available for higher-voltage drive architectures.

The RE20 is compatible with the GR 42, GR 53, GR 63, GR 80 and BG 62 dCore motor series. It can be mounted open to the motor body at IP 30, or integrated directly into the BG motor profile housing for IP 65 protection in harsher environments. For cable runs longer than 2.5 m between encoder and controller, Dunkermotoren recommends selecting an encoder with a driver (TI) stage.

Typical applications include industrial conveyor and material handling systems, automated assembly equipment, pump and fan drives, and general-purpose motion control where reliable closed-loop feedback is required across a wide operating temperature range.

The RE20 pairs with the full Dunkermotoren motion system — combine with a GR-series planetary gearbox for torque multiplication, or add a Dunkermotoren electromagnetic brake for controlled stopping and position holding.

Features
  • Runs from a standard 5 Vdc supply, with a 24 Vdc version available on request — integrates into 24V drive architectures without an additional voltage conversion stage, simplifying wiring and reducing component count
  • 100 ppr resolves to 400 counts per revolution in quadrature, giving dependable speed and direction sensing for closed-loop control
  • 15 ns rise and fall times keep signal edges clean at speed, so the controller doesn't drop counts
  • IP 30 open-mounted or IP 65 inside the BG profile housing — one encoder suits both clean and harsher installations
  • Compact Ø 44 mm × 18.5 mm body fits tight machine envelopes without redesigning the drive end

FAQs
The RE 20 outputs 100 pulses per channel (ppr), which resolves to 400 counts per revolution (cpr) in quadrature via its A/B interface — enough resolution for reliable speed and direction sensing in closed-loop control applications.
The RE 20 runs from a 5Vdc supply drawing 25mA, matching the same rail used by most control electronics so no dedicated power supply is needed; a 24Vdc version is available on request for installations standardised on 24V control systems.
The RE 20 is designed for Dunkermotoren's GR 42, GR 53, GR 63, and GR 80 brushed DC motor series, as well as the BG 62 dCore brushless DC motor series, allowing closed-loop feedback to be added across this motor range.
The RE 20 is rated IP 30 in its standard open-mounted configuration, protecting against solid objects but not water ingress; when integrated into the BG motor's profile housing, protection rises to IP 65, making it suitable for washdown or dust-heavy environments where the standalone unit would not be adequate.
The RE 20 uses contact-free magnetic sensing rather than brushes or physical contact surfaces, eliminating the mechanical wear points that limit the service life of contact-based encoders in continuous-duty applications.
Dunkermotoren recommends fitting an encoder with a driver (TI) output stage for cable runs longer than 2.5m between the encoder and the control system, as the RE 20's standard A/B output is not designed to maintain signal integrity over longer distances.
The RE 20 operates from −20°C to +85°C and measures Ø44mm × 18.5±0.5mm, making it compact enough to fit tight machine envelopes at the motor drive end without redesign.
The RE 20 uses a 5-pin connection: Pin 1 = GND 0V, Pin 3 = Channel A, Pin 4 = Vcc 5V, and Pin 5 = Channel B (Pin 2 unused); output signal levels are 0.6Vdc max. for logic low and 2.4Vdc min. for logic high, with a maximum output current of 20mA and 15ns rise/fall times, giving clean edges for most PLC and drive digital inputs.
